The Role
Provides support for assigned team in Facilities Management. Assignments include:
• Construction (renewals, new construction, renovations)
• Accommodation (furniture moves, space reconfigurations)
• Asset management (building asset maintenance)
• Operations (service contract/site inspections, tenant/building notices, operational projects)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Supports the team to develop, design, and implement assigned projects, including leasehold improvements, new construction, facility renovations, furniture moves and reconfigurations, and building asset maintenance.
- Assists the team to assess plans, specifications, and data to support final costing for projects.
- Assists the team to coordinate and review work carried out by consultants and contractors per contract agreements (e.g., site visits, reporting through site inspection forms, coordinating contractors on site).
- Supports the team in the maintenance of existing buildings as required by the capital and operational maintenance program.
- Assists to coordinate site access and implementation of projects, process, standards development, and other initiatives identified through divisional programs/systems.
- Liaises with internal clients and project stakeholders (e.g., contractors, other divisional staff) regarding project components. Writes communications to notify regional staff of project work.
- Collects, enters, and maintains project data to form the basis for the physical stages or final costing for projects. Reviews plans, specifications, and data.
- Uses a computer and reviews paperwork approximately 70% of the time. Conducts site inspections and takes measurements approximately 30% of the time.
- Travels daily to corporate facilities. Works in both a standard office environment and conducts regular site visits.
- Exercises precautions to mitigate risks associated with construction sites.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of building science, related systems, and risk management is acquired through current post-secondary enrolment in a related discipline (e.g., Architectural, Engineering, Building Science, Construction/Civil Engineering).
- Knowledge of and ability to follow policies, procedures, standards, and legislation (e.g., health and safety, Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, CSA Standards).
- Organization and time management skills to work with multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
- Ability to take accurate notes and measurements.
- Communication skills to liaise and exchange information with clients, consultants, and contractors, and participate as an effective team member.
- Computer skills using software such as Microsoft Office and computer aided drafting software (AutoCAD).
- Ability to read and interpret drawings (including AutoCAD drawings), design standards, specifications, reports, policies, and procedures. Ability to write clear, concise building notices.
- Must have a valid G driver's license (or G2 with 3 years of driving experience) and acceptable driving record to operate corporate vehicles.
- Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
