Duties/Responsibilities
- Prepares and portions residents’ meals in dining rooms, per residents’ dietary profiles. Work shifts, weekend hours, and statutory holidays, as scheduled.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of food preparation acquired through a current Food Safety Training Certificate and current enrollment in a college/university food services program –OR—a current Food Safety Training Certificate and current enrollment in a college/university program with related experience in food services.
- A tuberculosis (TB) test and annual influenza immunization are required.
- Communication and interpersonal skills to respond pleasantly and professionally to demands; communicate effectively with staff, residents, and families; interact appropriately with and have a basic understanding of the geriatric population; and participate as an effective team member.
- Organizational, time management, and problem solving skills to work independently, adhere to schedules, prioritize tasks and complete work in a timely manner.
- Ability to make accurate mental calculations (e.g., portion sizes, number of dishes, preparing beverages).
- Ability to read and understand policies, procedures, and instructions (e.g., resident diet profiles, work assignments, product labels, menus and menu modifications, temperature charts). Ability to complete forms, requisitions, temperature checklists, and record information in the communication log book.
- Ability to work shifts, weekend hours, and statutory holidays, as scheduled.
- Must provide an acceptable Police Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3).
- Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
To be considered for employment as a student, a person must be: registered as a full-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited institution, or currently recognized as having full-time status by the academic institution but applying for a school vacation, practicum or work term, or returning to full-time studies in the next academic term. Students who are in their final year of academic study and who are not intending to return to full-time studies are eligible for student employment up until the time they convocate. Students participating in education and retraining programs at the post- secondary level, though not full-time students, are eligible for related student employment opportunities, where appropriate.
