Duties/Responsibilities

  • Performs custodial, general cleaning, and minor maintenance duties for the Division’s water treatment facilities. Maintains areas, including pumping stations, well houses, and water treatment plants, according the standards and guidelines. 
  • Uses cleaning methods and products; measures, mixes and applies products per health and safety requirements and manufacturer instructions.
  • Performs maintenance tasks (e.g., hardware maintenance, glazing and caulking repairs, painting, gutter cleanout).
  • Performs material handling duties (e.g., delivering supplies, moving signs).
  • Performs grounds maintenance activities such as grass cutting, fencing, and lawn, tree and shrub maintenance.
    Inspects interior and exterior condition of facilities.
  • Completes checklists and advises supervisor of requirements for additional service or repair. Monitors and reports insect/pest infestations and vandalism/graffiti to supervisor and takes appropriate action.  
  • Collects and removes garbage from buildings.
    Assists with the maintenance of Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) per legislation.
  • Arranges/organizes supplies. Monitors stock and reorders.
  • Spends 30% of the time working outdoors to make repairs. Travels daily between sites.
  • Work requires constantly moving about, including range of movement, bending, and stooping.  Lifts/carries equipment, supplies, and materials, and moves furniture/equipment weighing up to 22 kg/ 50 lbs. Uses a ladder (8 ft).  
  • Operates and maintains vehicles, equipment, and tools used for own work in good working condition; advises supervisor or designate for additional service or repair. 
  • Follows health and safety policies and procedures and wears appropriate personal protective equipment (e.g., safety boots, safety glasses and gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, fall-arrest equipment, reflective vest) to mitigate risks associated with dust, noise, and machinery operation in the workshop, construction equipment, hazardous materials, vibrations, and slippery surfaces. 
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Reading, writing, and math skills are acquired through current enrolment in a college/university program.
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow policies, procedures, and legislation (e.g., Health and Safety Act).  
  • Time management and organizational skills to work independently. 
  • Functional knowledge of the proper and safe operation and use of equipment related to job duties.  
  • Communication skills to interact with regional staff and participate as an effective team member.
  • Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office and document management systems. 
  • Ability to read and apply safety information.  Ability to complete checklists. 
  • Must have a valid G driver's license (or G2 with 3 years of driving experience) and acceptable driving record to operate corporate vehicles.
  • Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
