Duties/Responsibilities

 

  • Verifies, prints, and prepares social assistance payments generated by provincial social assistance database, and issues reloadable payment cards. 
  • Processes third party invoices for payment (e.g., vision care, prescriptions).
  • Provides clerical and administrative support and client service to the Section. Enters information in databases.
  • Responds to inquiries from clients, staff, vendors and community agencies, or directs to appropriate staff.  
  • Processes mail.  
  • Uses provincial software to confirm information, process payments, and respond to client inquiries.  
  • Uses a computer approximately 80% of the time. Communicates with third parties, clients and staff approximately 20% of the time.  
  • Works in a standard office environment.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Knowledge of general office procedures, analysis, word processing, customer service, basic accounting, and financial procedures, acquired through current enrollment in a post-secondary program.  
  • Knowledge of and ability to comply with policies, procedures, and related legislation (e.g., privacy).
  • Organization skills to process client and administrative requests according to established guidelines.  
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities.  
  • Communication skills to provide customer service and respond to client inquiries; gather required information; take messages; and participate as an effective team member.  
  • Computer skills with ability to use software such as Microsoft Office (including Excel) and provincial systems.  
  • Ability to take accurate messages.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

To be considered for employment as a student, a person must be: registered as a full-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited institution, or currently recognized as having full-time status by the academic institution but applying for a school vacation, practicum or work term, or returning to full-time studies in the next academic term. Students who are in their final year of academic study and who are not intending to return to full-time studies are eligible for student employment up until the time they convocate. Students participating in education and retraining programs at the post- secondary level, though not full-time students, are eligible for related student employment opportunities, where appropriate.
