Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provides planning, technical, research, and analytical support.
  • Participates through individual projects and study teams.
  • Collects and analyzes data.
  • Conducts research and other assigned tasks.
  • Oversees and/or conducts surveys.
  • Uses statistical and/or transportation planning models.
  • Assists in preparations for and/or participates in public meetings.
  • Works some evening hours to attend public meetings

 

Current Assignment:

  • Assists in the development of service changes.
  • Assists in the review and implementation of different aspects of the iXpress network, including technology and infrastructure.
  • Analyses and checks reliability of data obtained from electronic registering fare boxes and AVL/APC (automatic vehicle location/automatic passenger counter) system.
  • Assists in monitoring new routes.
  • Assists in bus stop and route corridor analysis.
  • Conducts surveys while travelling on the transit system or stationed at bus stops.
  • Analyses manual and automatic passenger counting data, schedule survey data, and other survey information.
  • Presents analysis results in GIS map format for use by other staff, in reports or for public presentation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and skills are acquired through current enrolment in a related university program such as but not limited to Civil Engineering, Geography, Planning, Environmental Science, Business.
  • Knowledge and skills in transportation planning (transportation corridors and public transit), transportation policy formulation and implementation, and development planning.
  • Ability to work independently and organize time to accommodate multiple tasks.
  • Research, report writing, and analytical skills.
  • Computer skills using software such as Microsoft Office and GIS (e.g., ArcMap).
  • Ability to prepare, write, and read technical and research reports; compile statistical information; interpret and explain data.
  • Ability to prepare presentations for public meetings and workshops, local councils and technical committees, and external agencies.
  • Ability to travel within Waterloo Region.
  • Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.

To be considered for employment as a student, a person must be: registered as a full-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited institution, or currently recognized as having full-time status by the academic institution but applying for a school vacation, practicum or work term, or returning to full-time studies in the next academic term. Students who are in their final year of academic study and who are not intending to return to full-time studies are eligible for student employment up until the time they convocate. Students participating in education and retraining programs at the post- secondary level, though not full-time students, are eligible for related student employment opportunities, where appropriate.
