- Maintains and monitors computer controlled signals via central computer system and communications equipment. Identifies and troubleshoots traffic signal control and communications equipment. Creates work order requests for repairs to be performed by traffic operations staff.
- Receives traffic signal operation inquiries, concerns, and complaints from staff and the public. Performs engineering analyses; assesses signal operation and control strategy; recommends/ implements corrective actions; and evaluates revisions. Prepares technical reports and correspondence.
- Monitors real-time traffic data and initiates signalized intersection and corridor reviews. Analyses and interprets capacity and optimization results. Calibrates and develops simulation/animation models. Prepares signal timing plans and programming details for traffic signal controllers.
- Provides technical guidance and coordinates the implementation of signal timing plans and configuration, equipment installation/replacement, and signalized intersection design with other staff (e.g., signal technicians, traffic engineering, project managers), contractors, consultants, and utilities staff.
- Assesses traffic control measures for emergency road closures and construction detours.
- Prepares/reviews signal equipment designs, layouts, and geometric requirements for capital projects. Works with design and construction staff, contractors, and consultants to support project implementation.
- Designs educational and interactive displays and brochures for education campaigns. Conducts presentations on traffic control systems and operations, including in-field training sessions with the public, school crossing guards/school patrols, and special needs groups.
