Summary

The Security Clearance Clerk processes security checks and performs related social media checks.

You Will:

  • Receive Personal History Forms and prepare paperwork and track the return of documents for the processing of security checks for all applicants, student placements, volunteers, band, chorus and auxiliary members, including sub-contractors, cleaning contractors, interpreters, Safety Village applicants, and special project personnel.
  • Queries individuals through the PRIDE RMS, Niche RMS system, CPIC, Firearms Interest Police (FIP) and Intelligence Database (iBase) and reviews printouts.
  • Reviews and provides information to applicants regarding security clearance applications.
  • Provides completed security checks to Supervisor for review and approval and inform appropriate contacts regarding the results of security checks.
  • Responds to formal requests for information from the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and other police services for employment purposes. Determine if requesting agency is entitled to receive information under the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), and ensure appropriate waivers are signed and available.
  • Searches open-source data and social media was part of the background process for applicants; prepares reports on each applicant and forward to HR for review.

You Have:

  • Successfully completed a two-year community college diploma in office administration, justice administration or related field.
  • One (1) year of previous experience with the internet and social media including using best practices, trends and innovative and creative social media strategies and programs to search and acquire information.
  • Ability to complete the Using the Internet as an Intelligence Tool course and the Advanced open-source Intelligence Investigate course, with additional courses or training as required.
  • Must be able to clear an application pre-screening (PBQ).
  • A valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s License with no more than six demerit points required to travel within and outside the Region.

  • Able to write and send routine messages to other police services requesting security check background information of applicants, contractors, students and volunteers applying to WRPS.
  • Able to meet police security clearance requirements and to maintain confidentiality.
  • Able to meet testing requirements for the position.
